Tulsa named third best travel destination in July

TULSA, okla. – Travel + Leisure magazine has just published the top 10 trips for July.

Guess which city came third? Tulsa, Oklahoma. This city in the Green Land attracts vacationers from all over the country every year.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find dozens of great hiking trails in the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness, and Gathering Place offers the family a sprawling 70 acres of playgrounds to stimulate the imagination.

If city life is more your scene, The Max is an awesome ’80s themed bar with a giant mechanical falcor from The NeverEnding Story and loads of vintage arcade video games. However, if you want to be more upscale, the Mayo is an Art Deco hotel with a rooftop bar that offers 180-degree views of downtown Tulsa.

If art and culture are more your scene, then the Philbrook Museum of Art is your destination. Artwork from around the world is housed in a Spanish-style mansion from the 1920s. The reasons are breathtaking. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a Jane Austen novel.

One of the most unique places in T-Town is the “Center of the Universe”. Located right on the corner of West Archer Street and North Boston Avenue, it can best be described as an acoustic conundrum. As you get near this landmark you will notice a cement circle on the floor surrounded by a larger circle of bricks. If you stand in the middle and speak, your echo will come back to you much louder. It’s one of the strangest phenomena.

With Travel + Leisure, Reno and Lake Tahoe, Nevada became the second top vacation spots in July.

Reno is known for its casinos and concert venues, and Lake Tahoe is just an hour south. It’s a popular spot for those looking for the ultimate lake experience.

The number one destination is Newport, Rhode Island, about three hours from the Big Apple.

Newport is a quaint waterfront town. Travelers can experience the character of this historic city on a tour of the 19th-century mansions.

The top goals for July 10th are rounded off by:

4) Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island, Florida

5) Barnard, Vemont

6) Breckenridge, Aspen and Vail, Colorado

7) Baltimore, Maryland

8) Charleston, South Carolina

9) Maui, Hawaii

10) Sante Fe, New Mexico
