Tulsa LB Collins skips the bowl recreation and enters the NFL draft

Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins announced on Thursday that he is joining the NFL, the day after winning the 2020 Bronko Nagurski Trophy for best defensive player in college football.

He is leaving the program immediately and will not play in the Armed Forces Bowl on December 31st when Tulsa (6-2) takes on Mississippi State (3-7) in Fort Worth, Texas.

“In support of my family and my dreams, I want to announce that I am signing up for the 2021 NFL draft and focusing on preparing for that dream,” he wrote on Twitter. “I wish all my teammates the best of luck in the Armed Forces Bowl.”

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound junior registered 53 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, four interceptions, and two forced fiddling in eight games for the Golden Hurricane. He returned two picks for touchdowns: 38 yards in South Florida (October 23) and 96 yards against Tulane (November 19).
