Cincinnati’s regular season finale in Tulsa on Saturday has been canceled due to COVID-19 cases under the Bearcats program.
The Bearcats (8-0, 6-0) and Golden Hurricane (6-1, 6-0) will meet in the championship game of the American Athletic Conference on December 19.
The location of the game will be the home stadium of the team that is ranked higher in the College Football Playoff Ranking published Tuesday night. Cincinnati was # 7 and Tulsa was # 24 on last week’s rankings.
Cincinnati hasn’t played since a 36:33 win at UCF on November 21. The Bearcats game in Temple on November 28 was canceled due to coronavirus concerns at both schools.
“Since returning from Orlando on November 21, 2020, we’ve had an increased number of positive results from our athletes, coaches and staff,” said Cincinnati sporting director John Cunningham in a statement released Tuesday. “Fortunately, we’ve had very few symptomatic cases and those who showed symptoms seem to be fine.”
Expecting his school to host the AAC title game, Cunningham said Cincinnati has requested an exemption from the state of Ohio to allow a limited number of fans at the stadium.
