Relapse Tulsa: State prohibition of Sharia legislation declared unconstitutional 10 years in the past at this time, historical past
Ten years ago today, U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange issued an injunction continuing the implementation of State Question 755 banning the application of Sharia law in state courts.
The injunction was requested by Muneer Awad, executive director of the Oklahoma chapter of the American-Islamic Relations Council.
Sharia law is Islamic law and is based on the Koran and the teachings of Muhammad. The question of state was passed in early November with more than 70 percent approval.
In August 2013, the judge issued a final ruling that the state issue was unconstitutional and violated the establishment clause of the US Constitution.
