PITTSBURG – Former Pittsburg High School eminent student Gavyn Elkamil has made his choice where to begin his college career.
Elkamil pledged to play college basketball on Monday at the University of Tulsa, a Division I program out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Elkamil, who will be playing a wrap-up season at Link Year Prep this year, will be inducted into the Tulsa program after becoming an all-state performer for the Purple Dragons.
In his senior campaign, Elkamil averaged 24.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 steals per game.
Elkamil was named 4-State Basketball Coach of the Year and was named to the first teams of All-Area, Craw-Kan Southeast, and All-SEK.
Elkamil was also named a finalist for the Kansas Class 5A Player of the Year award.
The Golden Hurricanes finished the shortened 2019-2020 season between 21 and 10 with a 13-5 record in the AAC conference, placing them at the top of the conference standings.
The previous season, Tulsa set a record of 18-14 before falling to SMU in the opening round of the conference tournament.
The Golden Hurricanes last played the NCAA tournament in 2016, their sixteenth tournament appearance.
