Quinton Flowers threw two touchdown passes and South Florida held off in Tulsa between 27 and 20 Thursday night to battle for a spot in the American Athletic Conference championship game.

Flowers, one of the best double threat quarterbacks in the country, ran 119 yards and threw 142 to the Bulls (9-1, 6-1) from coach Charlie Strong in next week’s regular season finale against UCF # 15 with the AACs to send titles to the East Division on the line.

Flowers and USF’s high-powered offensive weren’t as keen as usual, but TD throws of 25 yards at Tire McCants and 35 yards at Darnell Salomon in the first quarter gave the Bulls an early 21-7 lead.

Luke Skipper scored 12 and 9 yards for Tulsa (2-9, 1-6) in the first half. The Golden Hurricane blocked a boat to score a 38-yard field goal that reduced a 10-point deficit to 27-20 in 4 minutes and 18 seconds.

Tulsa got the ball one more time and backup quarterback Chad President took a ride from his own 25 to USF 30 before flipping the ball on Downs.

D’Angelo Brewer ran 163 yards for Tulsa and became the rushed leader of the Golden Hurricane at 3,662 yards. The senior also broke the AAC career mark of 3,609 set by the former USF, which Marlon Mack ran back.

Since losing to Houston, the Bulls have delivered one of their best offensive performances of the season – 602 yards against UConn – and one of the sloppiest on Thursday night. Flowers lost a fumble in the second quarter, throwing an end zone interception that stopped another promising ride.

Buffalo 40, Ball State 24: Tyree Jackson linked up with Anthony Johnson for four touchdowns, including three in the first half, and the Bulls (5-6, 3-4 Mid-American Conference) snapped at host Cardinals (2-9 , 0-7) Thursday night.
